Softball Sensation

The first edition of the GS Sports Blog's will preview the girls' softball team. Despite losing key players last season, the team was able to make the playoffs. I had the opportunity to interview senior pitcher Carrie Maier on the prospects of the upcoming season and her hopes for the future of the program.

Pat: What are your expectations for the upcoming season?
Carrie:(Shrugs) I guess my personal goal is to stay injury free.

P:Who do you expect to be the impact players on the team this season?
C:We have two freshman named Jayne Oberdorf and Taylor Mehan who look really good and should help replace our losses in the infield.

P:What do you feel is the team's strength?
C:The infield because there is a lot of depth from the incoming freshman class.

P:What has been the focus of the coaches heading into the season?
C:To maintain a better attitude than last season. We had some arguments between players last season so hopefully we can improve on the chemistry.

P:Do you feel that the team is a playoff contender?
C:Yes, we've made the playoffs every year since I was a freshman so it's realistic.
