Recent News

The brutal winter of 2010 continues to take a toll on the high school basketball season. After another round of snow Tuesday night, school was canceled Wednesday along with the section match up between GS and Laurel Highlands. Due to the fact that the WPIAL is announcing playoff pairings Wednesday night, Wednesday was the last chance for the game. It appears as though the section will be split with LH taking the higher seed due to their win in the game earlier this season. It is a tough pill to swallow for GS, however, they appear to be a better team than LH at this point and time and hopefully they will prove this in the playoffs. In other news, the GS school board discussed complaints by parents and players against girls' soccer coach, Jim Morrison. Finally, girls' basketball coach Jen Yuvan and her entire staff announced their resignation last night at the meeting.

  1. So you're not going to comment on these matters, yet you do anyway, Pat? Again, I will tell you, just as I did before concerning the article for soccer - the problem is that the teachers/coaches aren't permitted to say anything in these matters, so what you get is a very one sided response. I'm not saying that everything the soccer coach did was right because I really don't know the entire situation. This is the stance you should have also taken - you don't know the whole situation, so you shouldn't be commenting on either, even though you have.

  2. One more thing, Pat...

I am not trying to silence you - please don't take my comments that way. Keep in mind that your freedom of speech isn't protected nearly as much as say, a Facebook page devoted to somebody else that is not done as a school sponsored project or worked on in school or on a school computer. Because this is your senior project, and because I am your adviser, I am pointing out something that is irresponsible on your part.

Quite honestly, with your experience in the class, you should also know better. The immediate thing that is inferred when you say "that participation in the team has dropped dramatically since Yuvan's first year. It is unfortunate and I hope that in the future, the girls' team will return to their championship form" is that it is the coach's fault for declining participation. You haven't addressed who has quit, why they have quit or what the coach and coaching staff have done to try to stop this. You haven't addressed the fact that other parents and other athletes have supported both Coach Yuvan and Coach Morrison, either.

Then again, you said you weren't going to comment...
