Running this Town

The Greensburg Salem Golden Lions (3-2) came into last night's contest against the Hempfield Spartans (6-1) hoping for a rebound against their crosstown rival after suffering a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of Greensburg Central Catholic the night before. Mission accomplished.

Despite struggling early with the Spartans size, the Lions were able to pull away in the third quarter due to a balanced scoring effort. Jake Matthews led the Lions with 17 points and Drew Manley added 10, going 3-3 from behind the three point line. Nate Perry led the Spartans with 21 points but the remainder of the starting five were not able to provide much offense, with none scoring more than 5 points. After seizing control of the lead late in the third quarter, the Lions pulled away in the fourth winning the contest by a score of 47-39. The Lions will head on the road to play the Uniontown Red Raiders on Tuesday, January 5 at 7:30 P.M.

  2. T.J. also had some key 3-pointers in the first half that got the offense going. Another thing that is interesting after seeing these two games will be who can rebound. This team lacks the size as last years did. They are going to need someone like Bobby to fill in for the loss in height. Raevaan looks like he can fill that gap with an impressive and strong performance grabbing boards last night. Hope this team can ignite a streak and get strong once section play starts Tuesday

  3. I think the key to this years team will be the play of T.J and Raevonn. Despite the fact that Raevonn is small for his position, he has a good wingspan; he has long arms and a good leap. T.J taking pressure off Jake with his shooting will also be important throughout the year. The team has as good a chance as any to take the section.
